China @#$%

The latest toy recall has caused me to seriously consider boycotting all products made in China. Toothpaste, dog food, tires and toys....where does it end?

I realize this will not be easy. I am not totally convinced it can be done - at least not on my budget. But we'll see. Check back often. I will update my China-boycott saga...

Ugh! I hear you! If you find a way to do it, I'd be on board too. This is getting insane!

argh...you said it.
have we figured out if we are just getting better about finding the problems...or is there more problems with the products recently?

I blame American Big Business for this debacle. If they were not obsessed with lowering costs to increase shareholder returns and executive pay bonuses and increases, this country would still have a strong manufacturing sector and not be so dependent on China. If you want things done right, you do them at home, even if it takes more work and costs a little more.

There, now I'm off the soapbox.

I'll find you a link to a book that a woman wrote about boycotting China for a year. It was really interesting. She said it was extremely difficult and expensive!

Ingrid - I think it is not only big business, but also the American consumer who demands lower prices...

Yes, Lori, I am sure it is expensive and difficult - but I am going to give it a try and see what I can come up with!

Good luck! I would like to do the same. I've been a lot more aware of where stuff is made lately. While out of town we stopped at Mcdonalds. I got Holden a happy meal with an apple juice box. I was reading the box and it said it was made from apple concentrate from none other than China. EEk. It's so hard to get away from products made there. Keep us updated on how the boycott goes.

I know! It is getting amazingly crazy. And so much says "made in China," but I think you are right, it can be done. Difficult, but possible!
